Matte is the new black. Or is it, black is the new matte? Either way you look at it, a matte black mani is hard to beat. This look is time consuming, but magnificent once finished.
To create this posh look you will need:
– a base coat
– a black nail polish
– a nude color
– chevron french tip guideline stickies or tape
– matte top coat, such as Essie’s matte about you
Step one: Clip and file your nails into your desired shape. I like square nails with rounded corners. Push your cuticles back and trim off and treat any hangnails.
Step two: Make sure your nails are clean and dry, meaning you have not gotten them wet in the last 2 hours or so. Using alcohol and a cotton ball, quickly swipe each nail to ensure they are nice and clean.
Step three: Apply base coat and allow to dry ten minutes.
Step four: Apply nude nail color and allow to dry completely, about an hour or so. Put on some Netflix, and catch up on your favorites. I love this part of doing my nails as it forces me to relax for a few hours.
Step five: Apply chevron stickies, leaving slightly less than a quarter of the end of your nail exposed. Trim the stickie to the exact size of your finger so the stickie lays flat, this ensures that no color will leak in and under the ends of the guide. Also make sure the chevron tip is exactly in the middle of your nail.
Step six: Apply black color to the ends of your nail. Let dry and apply a second coat if needed. You want a nice even solid application here. Let dry completely and peel off the guide using tweezers.
If using tape you will do this in two steps, applying one strip diagonally from left to right, painting and letting dry, then placing another strip diagonally from right to left, painting and letting dry.
Step six: Apply matte top coat and let dry completely again.
If you are patient enough to have come this far then congratulations! You can now sport your poshest manicure to date! Make sure to apply a coat of the top coat once every few days to get the longest life out of your mani as possible!
